So, how do you match throw pillows to create one cohesive look? I’ve got the secret coming up.

Hey Tori here with ToriToth.com the place to be to create a home buyers or anyone for that matter will find irresistible. Throw pillows are one of the easiest accent pieces to change up the look of a space.

The problem is with so many beautiful, affordable styles out there which ones do you choose.

I recently got this question from a viewer, Susan Fudge who asks could you do a video on how to mix and match fabrics/colors/texture? I would never have chosen all those pillows for the same space, yet they looked so fabulous.

Thank you Susan, for your question now she’s referring to my eclectic collection of outdoor throw pillows. Do you see anything in common?

If you want a designer look your pillows shouldn’t be matchy-matchy, but rather play off one another. Here’s what you should focus on – just remember the rule of three.

Three Colors

Start by deciding on your color palette. Choose three different colors pulled from other areas of the space. For instance, this dining set next to this seating area came with green cushions so I pulled green in as a color. We also used blues and tans creating a harmonious, cohesive look.

Three Patterns
Mix and match ideally three different patterns that fit in with your color palette. To avoid having competing patterns, choose three different sized patterns: large, medium and small. The largest pattern should contain all three colors, while the secondary pattern can contain just one or two of the colors.

Three Textures

Textures should be mixed, too! Play with smooth and rough, soft and fuzzy. By choosing a color story that’s found in your patterns, you can get creative with touch and feel. Even consider accents like tassels to add personality.

When arranging throw pillows, an odd number will create a modern look, while an even number of pillows positioned in a symmetrical style creates a traditional look.
